PART 4 – WINTERTIME SAGAS

Chapters 26 – 28

Chapters 26 and 27 – Not much for these two chapters as I believe you’d be unimpressed with images of a new technology or old technology, though whether an old radiogram can be referred to as ‘technology’ remains to be seen!  I also neglected to take images of the fairground, but you all know what one of those travelling fairs looks like. I’ve found one of our one-eyed Maisie, but generally she insists on only having her ‘good’ side taken … vain girl.  Still, there are loads of wintery skiing and the kids in ski school, plus that slope that I nearly whimped out of

Chapter 28 – Mont Roland, the site of those disappearing spooky images.  I’ve no photos of wintertime, usually because it’s freezing and we don’t get there until well after dark.  We’re usually too tired to concentrate on anything but enjoying a good meal.  So here are a few taken in summertime. The night time shot is rather poor, probably because I’d a lively dog on the lead!  Just wish I’d found one of those close up images of the spooky reflections in the clouds, the ones that mysteriously disappeared from my phone camera gallery.

PART 5 – SUMMERTIME JOURNEYS

Chapters 29 – 34

Chapter 29 – Here we are travelling down to the house, staying in the tiny village of Aranc for a night’s stay and then journeying onwards, passing the beautiful Lac Bourget. Here’s Rob and the dogs sheltering from the heat in the pedestrian Tunnel du Chat.  I’ve also put in an image of Lac Pavin, the crater lake in the Auvergne, the only other meromitic lake in France.

Chapters 30 and 31 – No images of Chapter 30 but a few from 31 that mark our visit to the Col d’Allos, up the ‘dangerous’ road to the top where  some shepherds appeared to have had a bit of a gathering.  After failing to find  out anything about it, we headed off for our scenic walk

Chapter 32 – A Market for the Senses.  You’ll have trust me on this one.  Technology hasn’t got to the point where I can create the aromas described in the Chapter, emitting them when you click on the photo.  One day it might happen.  You never know. So here are a few images of the market instead and the hives where all the luscious mountain honey comes from.

Chapter 33 – This is all about three walks in our gorgeous mountains, with two of the walks completely new to us.  I’ve split them into three separate galleries.  The First is our walk to the tiny collection of homes called Bouchier, hidden in the depths of the mountains. next is the storm heading our way once we got back, followed by a beautiful sunset.

Chapter 33 -Walk Two – The Col de St Michel and the Village of Peyresc. The first image always makes me giggle.  A reminder of that funny building and Rob wafting furiously at the biting flies. The second is the view from his position atop the Col.  Next are images of Peyresc and its views.

Chapter 33 – Walk Three – Seignus.  In winter this is a small ski resort with some quite difficult runs, but it’s very quiet in summer apart from mountain bikers and hikers.  These are a few images from this chapter, all labelled.  There is a main lift from Seignus village to the level where we ate our lunch, but we chose to walk up using the back access road.  Another smaller lift will then take hikers, mountain bikers and, in winter, skiers, to the very top.

Chapter 34 – Our Journey North – Starting with Lac Poncon, our village stop and then the serious  Grand Alpes Route and Lac Leman. All is breathtaking. Here are few images from that journey towards our final destination in Thonon Les Bains, the campsite and our day out to the ski resort of Chatel, passing through the town of Abondance, famous for its cheese.
